Setu Samudran & Sri Ram Setu

Once this canal is built , there will be a reduction in transit time for ships between India and Sri Lanka. Ships and boats will navigate in the passage between India and Sri Lanka. without having to take round circle of Sri Lanka. This has been estimated that there will be reduction of 400 (appoximately) nautical miles voyage on the west coast thus decreasing 16 hours time. Not only this would eventually result in increase in number of ships navigating in the west coast areas. NASA [National Aeronautics & space Administration], USA has taken pictures from the space shows the remains of what appears to be ages old man-made bridge between Rameshwaram and Sri Lanka. According to Hindu Mythology Lord Ram and his vaanar sena had built a bridge from Rameshwaram to Sri Lanka in search of Mother Sita about 17 Lacs 25 thousands years ago. The pictures released by NASA reveals the fact that Shri Ram Setu is not just a fiction rather confirms Hindu scriptures and belief. Setu samudran shipping canal project is based on the fact that it is inevitable to break Shri Ram Setu for easy navigation. This would result in demolition of a unique creation having both, historical and religious importance. Specialists proposed an alternative a sea route without damaging Sri Ram Setu, by removing the barren sand heaps near village Mandapam between Rameshwaram and Dhanushkoti railway. This will not only provide a shorter route for navigation but also protect the oldest man-made bridge a heritage, made during quite ancient civilization. Being a India national, we should request The President Of India to ask the Govt of India to reconsider the project and also take in account the sentiments of India nationals. The Govt should also consider the alternative sea route proposed by the Specialists.
