Power Crisis Hits More, Cold Waves Next

Updated on 03 January, 2008
With surprising failure of multiple units at Farrakka, Talchar-Kaniha and Talchar-Taniha producing units the state went with no electricity at all. The Barauni unit too got non-productive.Contrary to its demand of 300 MW the state capital got only 135 MW resulting to closure of all small industries and tillage works got hampered. According to NTPC officials the unit has been facing lack of coal for the last one week. The minimum requirement of 7 rack of coal to its unit has to satisfied with only 3 rack of coal that is being supplied from Lalmatia mines. In Kehalgaon thermal station NTPC has only 25k mt of coal in reserves which is just able to run the units for One and a half days. Knowingly with this failure the production from state thermal units are running behind 1060 mw.
