PMCH was founded in 1925 with 35 students. It was earlier named as PRINCE OF WALES MEDICAL COLLEGE. In undivided India it was the sixth and one of the oldest medical colleges. Currently the number of annual admissions is 100. The hospital is eqipped with 1760 beds.The WHO has selected PMCH as one of the ten medical colleges in the country for implementation of hospital waste management project. PMCH is also selected by The Rehabilitation Council of India as nodal center of Master Trainer Program for imparting training in rehabilitation of handicapped to the Medical Officers working in rural areas.
