Immersion Of Goddess Durga Completes
Updated on 22 October, 2007
In the twilight hours on Dashami, the crowd at the ghat was one of the biggest I have ever seen at an immersion. Besides hundreds of devotees, tourists from various parts of the state and even from far flung areas of UP had turned up to catch a last glimpse of the goddess on her journey back from her father’s home to her husband Shiva’s abode in Kailash. The ceremony began with preist from different puja pundals singing hymns in praise of the deity. Then, representatives of various puja pundals arranged for boats of their required size to mount the idol on it. As per rituals idols are free to immersion in river Ganga at the center and not near the banks so that idol could sink comfortably. Some pundals workers did arranged aarti of Maa at the ghats itself. Aratis with a lamp, a fan, incense sticks, dhunuchi and other novel items, was performed for the deity. In the arati Maa Ganges were also remembered and thanked by the visiting crowd. "Though arati is done everyday, it’s special on the immersion day", said a local priest. The proceedings were a treat for the senses — the drum beats, the chanting of the hymns, the lamps and the serene river in the background.“This is unique, totally different from anything i have seen anywhere else. Some parts of East UP have same rituals but i have opportunity to see it here only. This is my first experience", said S. Krishnna,31, soft.engg. with infosys who were in the city as a guest of his colleague-cum- friend Anjani at Infosys in Bangalore. Anjani who too a software developer, woking with Infosys in Banglore had come to ghats especially to . It is something special about patna and this is what drive me to Patna here every Puja. Since i born and brought up in Patna i feel connected to this place. But one thing is sure that there is something special in Puja in patna.
