Newer Version Cryogenic Engine Succefully tested

18 November 2007

On Thursday India Space Programme touched a new horizon when it conducted successful test of the indigenous built Cryogenic engine. Cryogenic engines are used in satellites. The scientists and technicians involved are in fact the face of proud in the India Space Programme. Our current GSLV satellite launcher uses cryogenic engines supplied by Russia. Now we can use our own indigenous built cryogenic engine in our satellite launcher GSLV. The test was conducted successfully at the Liquid Propulsion Centre, Mahendragiri in Tamilnadu.

The new cryogenic engine was tested successfully upto 780 seconds. The ISRO chairman G. Madhwan said in future the indigenous cryogenic engine will be used in GSLV. With this test the new cryogenic engine has attained full capacity and is ready for commercial use as well. This achievement will certainly lead INDIA upto a higher mark in space programmes.

The importance of indigenous cryogenic engine is important in terms of post Pokharan Atomic test. After Pokharan test USA had put sanctions on Indian space programmes and also to the supply of cryogenic engine to India by Russia. The Indian scientists never gave up and they accepted USA sanctions as a challenge to themselves and got ready to develop cryogenic engine by their own.

ISRO is all set to use the indigenous cryogenic engine in future.
