Madhepura - Issue Based vs Caste Based Politics Print E-mail
Monday, 27 April 2009
In Madhepura election fight seems to be centered around issue based politics versus caste based politics. Shard Yadav, the JD(U) president is fighting on issue based politics while Ravindra relying on caste politics as Yadav dominate the constituency. From RJD side the major issues are the alleged role of the state govt in rehabilitation and providing relief to the Koshi victims.

The opposition parties have been charging the state govt for negligence in the rehabilitation of the Koshi victims. The same voice is raised by the RJD candidate and former minister Ravindra Charan Yadav.

The Madhepura constituency had witness three direct fights between RJD supremo and Sharad Yadav in past. Laloo had won the seat twice in 1998 and 2004 while Laloo had lost the seat to Sharad in 1999.

Congress is also trying to mark its presence with the Congress candidate and University teacher Taranand Sada trying to pursue the Brahmin and Muslim votes. The independent candidate and sitting MLA from Sonbarsa, Kishore Kumar Munna is heavily relying on the works done by him during Koshi flood.

Ravindra is echoing the statements of his party supremo Laloo that whatever funds the Nitish govt had spent during the Koshi floods was provided by the govt in center. It was the center that provided funds for rehabilitation and the relief to the Koshi flood victims. The same sound is echoed in Ravindra voice.

While the stage is all set for the fight, the main fight will be witnessed between Sharad and Ravindra with the main issues being the alleged charge on the state govt by the opposition political parties versus the actual words done by the state govt.
